A new analysis of global aviation infrastructure based on The World Factbook 2025 shows the United States maintaining its position as the world's most connected country by air. Air travel keeps the world connected, but some countries have built far more runways than others.
According to 2025 estimates from The CIA World Factbook, the U.S. has 16,116 airports, accounting for over 34% of all airports globally. That's more than three times Brazil, which ranks second. This includes international hubs like JFK and LAX, regional commercial airports, private airfields, and small rural airstrips.
